The Finnish rainbow trout won the international Seafood Excellence Global.

The product developed by the Kalaneuvos was the best in the Horeca series. The victory is historic, as Finnish products have never previously won the race, says Pro Kala’s release.

In the world’s best fish and shellfish products, the Seafood Excellence Global competition was awarded two main prizes: the best retail product and the best Horeca product.

– This product is suitable for anyone who likes bacon. In addition, this is healthy and responsibly produced, says Kalaneuvos Product and Marketing Director Juho Järvinen in the bulletin.

The Seafood Excellence Global competition is held annually in Barcelona as part of the Seafood Expo Global, the world’s largest fishing event that brings together tens of thousands of buyers, journalists and experts in more than 150 countries.

This time, 40 finalists were involved in a total of 15 countries around the world.

The rainbow trout was awarded in Finland in March at Fastfood, Café & Restaurant Expo, both as a favorite for the audience and as a food product for the future.

Järvinen says that after rewarding, the jury came to praise the product for being unique.

Pro Kala’s Executive Director Katriina Partanen says in the release that the award received by the rainbow trout is a great thing for the whole Finnish fish industry and brings visibility to Finnish expertise. According to Partanen, Finnish products have been in the finals since 2018 every year.

According to Järvinen, the rainbow trout is suitable for pizza, burger or breakfast, for example.

There were also two other Finnish products among the finalists in the competition, as Hätälä participated in the Horeca series with his product salmon company Tex-Mex and in the consumer series with Loimulohi Arctic berries.
