Finland has received more name -protected foods because the name of the Savonian blueberry rooster is registered and has received a protected geographical entry (SMM), according to the Food Authority’s bulletin.
The protection of Savolainen’s blueberry rooster is based on the reputation of the blueberry flower as a traditional Savonian pastry. The peculiar feature of the pie is a solid structure that distinguishes it from the usual berry pies. The berries made in the pan also remain juicy due to the closed structure. It also specializes in a bark made of rye flour and a filling made of wild blacks collected from the forest.
The light brown shell of the Savolainen blueberry flower is crisp and sweet in taste. The damp filling is fresh and dark in color. The shape of the pastry varies from round to rectangular. The blueberry cock in Savonia is usually consumed as a dessert or as a coffee bread with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream or sauce.
The blueberry rooster in Savo combines the berry collection culture, which is characteristic of the Savo area and the versatile use of rye in the ancient traditional tradition. The blueberry rooster from Savo was selected as the Mikkeli parish food in 1984.
The geographical area of Savolainen’s blueberry rooster is formed by the provinces of Northern Savonia and South Savo.
So far, about 3,700 names have been protected by the European Union. The system now contains 16 Finnish registered appointments, fourteen of which is part of agricultural and food and two distilled alcohol products.
The aim of the name protection systems is to protect products from the abuse and inexpensive counterfeits of the established name.
