Finnish defender Ville Heinola22, was injured last night when the Winnipeg Jets faced the Ottawa Senators in an NHL practice game.

The Jets announced that Heinola is suffering from a lower body injury. The defender was unable to continue the match.

– It doesn’t look good. We will have more information tomorrow. This is not a short-term injury, head coach Rick Bowes said after the match.

The situation happened in the opening set, when Heinola collided with Ottawa during a corner kick Erik Brännström. Both fell to the surface of the ice.

Heinola fell on his left ankle. The defender seemed to react immediately with a pained expression.

The Finn had difficulty getting up, and had to be restrained in the locker room.

– This is not nice to watch. The young player’s training camp has gone so well, the commentator of the TV broadcast lamented.

– Look at the left ankle when he falls. It hurts to look at that, the commentator tripped.

The Jets booked Heinola in the first round in 2019. The defenseman played ten NHL games last season and recorded one assist. Most of the season went on the AHL side, where the points balance in 48 matches was 4+33.

Heinola debuted in the NHL already in the 2019–2020 season, but has not established his place in the Jets.

The Senators won the match 3–0.
