Basketball national coach Àlex Mumbrú no longer has to stay in the hospital.
“I’m feeling better. Today I’m finally going home, no more hospital”the Spaniard told the “Bild” newspaper on Friday. After winning the European Championship, Mumbrú traveled to his homeland for treatment after pancreatitis plagued him during the tournament.
Mumbrú spent a total of four weeks in the clinic in Barcelona. According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, the 46-year-old is said to have lost around 16 kilos in weight. This has not been confirmed.
On the way to the European title, Mumbrú returned in a different role
His assistant coach Alan Ibrahimagic was responsible for the games of Dennis Schröder and Franz Wagner on the way to the European Championship triumph, but Mumbrú returned to the hall during the tournament and also sat directly behind the German boards in the final against Turkey in Riga.
However, his influence remained limited; Ibrahimagic took over the coaching and the speeches during the timeouts. However, Mumbrú then received his gold medal and also lifted the European Championship trophy.
