A competitive game develops between the team of national coach Christian Wück and the fellow favorites from the start. The final phase becomes dramatic.

The dream of the European Championship title has burst for Germany in the most dramatic way: The DFB women lost the highly expected semi-finals against Spain after extra time with 0: 1 (0: 0, 0: 0) and thus missed the endgame of the tournament in Switzerland. World football player Aitana Bonmati (113.) scored late in an extension to victory for the favorite Spaniards in a competitive game in the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich.

For Germany it was only the second defeat in the preliminary round after 1993 (3: 4 IE against Italy) and the first against Spain in a ninth comparison. In the final next Sunday (July 27th) the Iberians will now meet defending champion England.

The prerequisites were very unfavorable, again Wück had to rebuild. And in extra time, Sophia Kleinhernen had to get off the pitch after a rescue act. The Sydney Lohmann, who came for Kleinhernen, met the ball in front of Bonmatí’s goal.

Captain Giulia Gwinn and Sarai Linder were previously damaged, Sjoeke Nüsken and Kathrin Hendrich were blocked. The quartet supplied the colleagues when warming up with drinking bottles, the support was also huge: on the stands, where 10,000 German fans and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier pushed their fingers crossed. The DFB men around Captain Joshua Kimmich sent best greetings and demanded “revenge” for the European Championship out in the quarterfinals in 2024 against Spain.

This should succeed with the “new” Kleinherne, Carlotta Wamser (after their red bang) and Sara Däbritz. Däbritz was in the tournament for the first time in the starting eleven and, according to Wück, was needed as a “resting pole”. His route? “We want to make you worse.” But the national coach warned: “If we are not mentally up to date, it will be very difficult.”

That was his eleven. After one of the many long passes by goalkeeper Berger, whose grandpa Herbert (92) was a lucky charm in the stadium, Klara Bühl missed the goal (8th). On the other hand, it was good for a long time to keep Spain out of the danger zone. After a mistake by Franziska Kett, Berger was on hand against striker Esther González (21st).

Spain had more possession, but little speed. The DFB team is different after ball conquests. So Wamser found the Sturmspitze Giovanna Hoffmann Sturmspitze through, but she shot from the far -sized position (31st).

Only in the final phase of the first half did Spain show his class with the world footballers Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas. Captain Irene Paredes hit the post by head (42.). Berger had to save several times, among other things strongly against her club colleague González (45.+1).

After the change of sides, the game became more torn, Bühl (63.) had a rare opportunity. Both teams hardly dared anything. The highly praised Spanish offensive, the best in the tournament with 16 goals, found no means of sorted and sacrificingly scented German defensive.

Bühl was the most striking offensive and set a free kick next to the housing (85th). A deflected shot of substitute Selina Cerci defused goalkeeper Cata Coll with great effort, in the follow -up Wamser (90.+4).

After a small failure, no trained defender was available. Wück had to withdraw captain Janina Ming from midfield.
