Four decisions still open

On Saturday the eleventh edition of the amateur finals day will take place, with finals of the state cup competitions taking place all over Germany. Numerous winners can look forward not only to the title, but also to a place in the first round of the DFB Cup, most of which takes place from August 21st to 24th. In addition to a big surprise in Brandenburg, there was also a furious comeback in Lower Saxony.
There was a first big cheer from the Demirovic family. Semir (26), the younger brother of Stuttgart attacker Ermedin (28), secured the title with HEBC Hamburg in the city of their birth. In the evening, Semir, who was only sitting on the bench, is excited with his brother at the DFB Cup final between defending champions VfB and champions FC Bayern and is hoping for a double triumph. The HEBC returns to the DFB Cup after 91 years. In the first edition of the competition, still called the Tschammerpokal in 1935, the club clearly lost 7-0 to Eimsbütteler TV.
The biggest surprise also came quite early in Brandenburg. Second division newcomers FC Energie Cottbus lost 1:2 to fifth division club VfB 1921 Krieschow – the first success for the blue-whites at the third attempt. The most spectacular duel was among the amateurs in Lower Saxony. Lüneburg’s SK Hansa was 3-0 behind against TuS Bersenbrück at half-time and fought its way into extra time with a score of 3-3. In the end, the penalty shootout had to decide, in which, after 18 shooters, the LSK crowned the comeback with 7:6 – especially thanks to goalkeeper Arne Exner.
SV Pastow was the only sixth division team without a chance. After the 0-7 defeat in the previous season, record winners Hansa Rostock won again clearly 3-0 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In the Mannheim city derby between Waldhof and VfR (3-0), the favorite prevailed. In Württemberg, fans of the Stuttgarter Kickers caused an interruption by storming the pitch shortly before the end. This didn’t change anything about Sonnenhof Großaspach’s 4-1 win.

The special features this year: Since Energie Cottbus and MSV Duisburg had already secured participation in the DFB Cup through their final placement in the 3rd league, VfB Krieschow and SC St. Tönis had secured a ticket regardless of the outcome of the finals. It will be the first appearance in the DFB Cup for the two fifth division teams. Together with HEBC Hamburg, SV Hemelingen and LSK Hansa, five upper division teams will be represented.

A ticket for the three other participants from Bavaria, Lower Saxony and Westphalia, the three largest regional associations, had also already been taken. The Würzburger Kickers are the best team in the Bavarian Regional League – reserve teams excluded – in the DFB Cup. Since the FWK is also in the state cup final, their opponent 1860 Munich could also look forward to a place in the first round.
In addition to the champions of the Oberliga Westfalen, who can still be called Westfalia Rhynern, Wattenscheid 09 or ASC Dortmund before the last two match days, the other place from Lower Saxony goes to the winner of the separate state cup for third and fourth division teams. The regional league teams SV Drochtersen/Assel and SSV Jeddeloh II will face each other there on Sunday (2 p.m.).
