Cate Blanchett will be a visiting lecturer at the University of Oxford. The university has announced this. The Hollywood actress will teach contemporary theater at St Catherine’s College in the next academic year.

“The visiting professorship is a fantastic opportunity for me to engage in direct, lively creative dialogue with the next generation of thinkers and creative doers,” says the two-time Oscar winner of her appointment.

Sir Cameron Mackintosh, the theater producer and theater owner who created the visiting professor position, is “overjoyed” that the Australian actress is taking on the role. “Her incredible career, both as an actress and producer in theatre, on screen and on television, will be a great inspiration to the students of Oxford,” he added.

Since 1990, several international celebrities have been visiting professors. In the past, actress Meera Syal, Ian McKellen and comedian and writer Stephen Fry have preceded Blanchett.
