School bag on the flagpole, proud parents on the sidewalk and the neighbor who asks ‘Where are you going to study now?’: It’s all part of the Dutch final examination tradition. But what if there is no red-white-blue flag, but one from Morocco? Filemon Wesselink has his opinion about that and he has expressed it in no time The Oranjezomer.
Moroccan flag
Host Thomas van Groningen gives the foret these in the episode of the SBS talk show. “You have annoyed by final exam flags.”
Filemon is bursting at that. “Yes, well … yes … in our neighborhood you have many people who have taken final exams and then I see a lot of Dutch flags. Then I think: yes, beautiful, the Dutch education system, we are also very good at that, but then you also see Moroccan flags hanging with such a school tag in one go.”
‘Tóch a pity’
Really not fun, Filemon thinks that. “Then I think: Okay, I understand the feeling a bit, but I think it’s a shame that you think of … we are good in education, you probably were born here, you’ve go through the Dutch school and then at the end you hang a Moroccan flag instead of a Dutch flag.”
He continues: “I just find that somewhere a pity to see.”
‘I understand’
Fellow table guest Frits Barend agrees with him. “I understand what you mean. You are at a Dutch school, you have done the Dutch final exam. If you hang a flag, you will hang a Dutch flag.”
And the right-wing TV critic Victor Vlam: “I totally agree, but I am completely surprised: a BNNVARA boy is coming up with this.”
Heat debate
Filemon’s statements provide a heated debate under a fragment on the Instagram-page of VI. “”Tell Me You Became a white man of middle age Without count Me you Became A White man of middle age … “, says Charlotte for example.
One Milton: “Maybe the media should not call young people of Moroccans but just Dutch people.”
And Joep: “Man man man what a very sad story, to annoy you.”
