In the last few hours, the viralization of an old message on social networks from Manuel Adorni has generated a strong political controversy. In 2021, before making the leap to public management as a presidential spokesperson, Adorni used his X account (then Twitter) to expose daily life situations that, according to his vision, reflected Argentine decadence.
“I bought a package of sausages that I later realized was in poor condition. I called Swift to make the claim. I just received a Provençal-flavored pâté in the mail for the inconvenience caused. This country has no waste,” he wrote at the time.
This archival record takes on a different relevance in the present, given that the spokesperson is today at the center of a case for alleged illicit enrichment. The contrast between the austerity of the claim for a sausage and the figures that the federal justice system currently handles on his personal assets has fueled criticism from the opposition and various social sectors.
The judicial situation
The case against the presidential spokesperson has recently gained momentum. The past March 27the prosecutor in charge of the file requested new testing measures to determine the origin of the funds that allowed an increase in assets considered suspicious. The investigation seeks to establish whether Adorni’s acquired assets and lifestyle since his arrival in the Government are related to his declared income.
Among the measures requested by the Public Ministry are information requirements from tax and banking organizations, as well as an expert opinion on their sworn statements. The focus is on the speed of its capitalization and on alleged corruption maneuvers that would have facilitated this economic growth in a short period of time.
From citizen complaint to federal scrutiny
What for the Adorni of 2021 was an irony about the functioning of companies and the State (“this country has no waste”), today becomes a phrase that his detractors use to point out the alleged irregularities in his management. The judicial investigation continues its course while the spokesperson tries to maintain his daily agenda, now marked not by the analysis of the domestic economy, but by the requirements of the Comodoro Py courts.
