In figure skating, Richard Button was one of the best athletes in US history. Now the sports icon has died.
The former figure skating star Richard “Dick” button died at the age of 95. This reported the AP news agency, citing his family. The American figure skating association announced that button had died of a natural death.
Button celebrated great success in figure skating. 1948 in St. Moritz and 1952 in Oslo he won Olympic gold in the individual competition. He also became world champion five times. After his active career, he worked as a commentator and shaped the sport as a “voice of the figure skating”.
The US ice skating association expressed its deepest condolences button’s family and relatives. The association had recently had a difficult loss: Several figure skaters, coaches and family members died during the aircraft accident in Washington on Wednesday evening.
