Figure skating: Germany wants to apply for the World Cup or European Championships in figure skating

Germany last hosted a World Figure Skating Championships 20 years ago. The German Ice Skating Union is now considering bringing a World Cup or European Championship to the country.

The German Ice Skating Union wants to apply for a world or European figure skating championship. “We’re already relatively far“, said DEU President Andreas Wagner.

He expects one through a World Cup or European Championship “Impulsion for the future” of figure skating in their own country. Most recently, the 2004 World Cup and the 1995 European Championship were held in Dortmund.

With the pair skating newcomers Minerva Hase and Nikita Volodin, Germany has a good chance of winning gold at the European Championships in Lithuania. The two 24-year-olds are the favorites for the title after winning the Grand Prix final. After the short program on Wednesday, the decision will be made in the free skate on Thursday.
