After a faulty freestyle, the two Berliners only managed a disappointing eighth place at the European Figure Skating Championships in Tallinn. As expected, the top three Russian couples fought for the medals among themselves.
The new European champions were the junior world champions Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Galljamow ahead of Evgenija Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov as well as Alexandra Boikova and Dimitri Koslowski.
Mistakes with the German duo Hase/Seegert
By this time, Hase and Seegert had long been squatting in the catacombs with sad faces. The four-time national champions failed too much that evening. A crashing fall, a completely screwed up lift – with petrified expressions, the duo literally crept off the ice.
Aljona Savchenko suffered in her native Oberstdorf with the German couple. “You have to see it as a dress rehearsal. It’s better if the mistakes happen now than at the Olympics“, said the gold medalist from Pyeongchang 2018 in the ARD. Hase explained the used day like this: “We put too much pressure on ourselves.”
Pair runners Hocke/Kunkel run past expectations
Annika Hocke and Robert Kunkel missed the hoped-for top ten by far. After a far from optimal freestyle, it was only enough for 13th place, so the third German starting place for the EM 2023 in Helsinki was lost.
On the other hand, Nicole Schott got off to a solid start in the afternoon with a soulful but above all flawless tango. The six-time German champion is eleventh in the freestyle decision on Saturday (from 6.30 p.m. in the live stream from sportschau.de and on ONE) and showed improving form in her last Olympic test.
