Figure fighter Lindsay van Zundert sure of World Cup final

With a good short freestyle, Lindsay van Zundert has secured a place in the final at the World Championships in Montpellier. The 17-year-old figure skater from Etten-Leur received a score of 58.49. Halfway through Wednesday’s competition it became clear that that score is good enough for Friday’s freestyle. Last year she made her debut at the World Cup with 16th place.

Van Zundert achieved a score of 59.24 at the Winter Olympics. That was a personal record at the time. At the World Cup, it just failed to match that score.

Van Zundert finished sixteenth at the World Championships in Stockholm last year. She then qualified 24th for the freestyle, which she rode excellently. This achievement made her the first Dutch figure skater at the Games since Dianne de Leeuw in 1976 in Innsbruck.

In January of this year, Van Zundert was unable to qualify for the freestyle at the European Championships in Tallinn. She did not get further than 27th place in the short freestyle due to a fall.
