Ajax started with Steven Berghuis and Davy Klaassen in the base against Feyenoord. No crazy choice of Faroli, since both players have many classics to their name. Jordan Henderson also had a base place and was ‘just’ the captain.
Brobbey breaks the spell
Ajax started the match strongly. It created quite a few opportunities and gave little away in the back. After 37 minutes the fans were treated to the first goal. After good work by Hato and a tight pass from Berghuis, Brobbey was able to simply type the ball. For the born and raised Amsterdammer it was his first goal ever in the classic. Immediately afterwards, Traoré had a dot of a chance, but he headed the ball on the bar. The Amsterdammers determined the pace and had the most chances in the first half. The men of Farioli walked with loud applause towards the dressing room.
Ajax had to compete
The Amsterdammers got a bit more difficult in the second half. It was mainly Feyenoord who ensured that the Amsterdam public had to hold its breath. The routinier Pasveer, who played his three hundredth match, was able to save Ajax a few more times. But in the end Feyenoord managed to make the equalizer.
The equalizer was a big wake-up call for Ajax, who immediately attacked again. Which resulted in a deserved penalty for Weghorst. But the second striker of Ajax did not cope with this. In the end, both Ajax and Feyenoord do not score. But in the 94th minute, Kenneth Taylor scores the winning goal.
