Buchmann loses time but remains seventh
Carapaz and Hindley reached the day’s goal around four minutes later in the chasing group. Hindley’s German teammate Emanuel Buchmann had to give up on the demanding final climb, but defended his seventh place overall and is now 8:21 minutes behind Carapaz. Third remains ahead of the weekend’s showdown by Spaniard Mikel Landa, 65 seconds back. “The guys did a good job today. It won’t be easy on the last two stages,” said Hindley.
On the penultimate stage on Saturday, everything will be demanded of the drivers in the fight for the top places in the overall standings. 4,490 meters of altitude stand in the way of the cyclists on the 168 kilometers from Belluno to the mountain finish in Marmolada on the 2,057 meter high Fedaia Pass. Before that it goes over the 1,918 meter high San Pellegrino Pass and the Pordoijoch (2,239 meters). The Tour of Italy 2022 ends on Sunday with a 17.4-kilometer individual time trial in Verona.
