An unforgettable day for more than fifty children today during the Children’s Run on the TT Circuit in Assen. Children who do not always have an easy time at home or at school could forget their worries for a while during a tour on the back of a motorcycle around the circuit.
The children come from all over the country to Assen to ride a lap on the track together with a buddy during the break of the Ducati Club Race. The Children’s Run is organized for the fourth time by three foundations, including Bikers4All.
“The children who participate in this cannot be children due to circumstances,” explains Derk Hoekman, chairman of Bikers4All. “This could be due to illness in themselves or a family member, but also bullying and even abuse.” The foundation therefore helped to pick up the children from home and take them to the circuit.
“The children think this is fantastic,” notes Hoekman. “They look forward to this all year, especially those who have participated before.”
Not only do the children clearly enjoy it, many parents along the side of the track do too. “Parents say: ‘A child comes with us, and we get another child back’. That’s why you do it,” says a proud Hoekman.
13-year-old Jayden from Heerenveen thought it was ‘great’ to sit on the back of a motorcycle. He is bullied at school and on this day he can forget his worries for a while. “This is a day not to be missed, you will not forget this!”
“You can do fun things and I also got something tasty,” he continues. It is already the third time that Jayden has participated. “If I’m asked, I’ll definitely go along.”
