The 18-year-old Veijer impressed last week by winning the Malaysian Grand Prix in his debut year. He was satisfied with the qualifications. “This is an excellent position. It could have been better. But this is good,” he said at Ziggo Sport.

In Moto2, Zonta van den Goorbergh starts from fourteenth place (1.58.243). Bo Bendsneyder has to start from 25th place. American Joe Roberts took pole (1.57.305).

In MotoGP there was a sprint race. Jorge Martin was again the best. The Spanish motorcycle racer did well with his win in the battle for the world title. He halved his deficit to Italian classification leader Francesco Bagnaia to 7 points. Bagnaia finished fifth in the sprint race.
