The world football association Fifa has presented the tournament poster for the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada. While President Infantino praises it, criticism and malice follows on social media.
FIFA has unveiled the official poster for the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada. It was designed by three artists from the host countries and is intended to symbolize the spirit and unity of the global football event.
The poster, unveiled to mark the 100-day countdown to the World Cup, features a collage featuring a central player. It is intended to illustrate football’s ability to unite the world.
Fifa President Gianni Infantino praised the design, saying the poster captured “the energy, diversity and shared passion” that made what he called “the most inclusive World Cup ever.” “From kick-off to the final whistle, billions of fans in stadiums and on every continent will experience moments that transcend football, uniting cultures and celebrating unity on a truly global stage,” Infantino said.
However, on X, formerly Twitter, the poster is not perceived as euphorically as the 55-year-old FIFA official sees it. For example, a user changed the poster; the new design shows the outline of a soldier, presumably an ICE officer pointing his rifle at a child’s chest.
Another user comments with just one word: “What?” (“What?”). Other users simply find the poster “boring” or are calling for a boycott of the World Cup.
For the first time in the history of the World Cup, the official poster was designed jointly by three artists: Hank Willis Thomas from the USA, Minerva GM from Mexico and Carson Ting from Canada.
The individual posters for the 16 venues in the three host countries were already published last year.
