FIFA confirms financial blessing for BVB

On Wednesday evening, Real Madrid ended RB Leipzig’s Champions League dream thanks to a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabéu. As in the first leg (0-1), the Saxons were in no way inferior to the top Spanish club, but in the end they were left behind. A circumstance that will definitely be welcomed at Borussia Dortmund. BVB has therefore secured its place in the reformed Mega Club World Cup in 2025. FIFA confirmed this.

“Congratulations BVB on qualifying for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup! With RB Leipzig’s elimination from the Champions League, Dortmund is now guaranteed a place in the rankings. BVB will join FC Bayern as German representatives at next year’s tournament ” says a message from the world association on the short message service “X”.

This Club World Cup will take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025 in the USA and for the first time with 32 teams. Twelve of them come from Europe. The Champions League winners of the last three years and the future one have been seeded, and FC Bayern, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, FC Porto, SL Benfica and now BVB already have enough points based on a system decided by UEFA collected in the premier class to be guaranteed to take part.

Another 10.6 million euros if BVB reaches the quarter-finals

There were still three places vacant before the round of 16 pairings in the 2023/24 European football premier class. BVB and Leipzig had a good chance of winning one of these.

However, only one Bundesliga team was able to achieve the feat, as only two teams from one country are allowed to qualify via the quota places. Participation alone should guarantee around 46 million euros.

But that’s not all: Regardless of Leipzig’s elimination, Borussia can continue to fill their coffers. If they prevail in the second leg against PSV Eindhoven (first leg: 1-1), reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League would once again ensure that UEFA pays out 10.6 million euros in bonuses.
