The 2026 World Cup is getting bigger than ever: with 48 teams, 104 games and 6.5 million expected fans, the run will soon begin on the tickets. But the FIFA warns of entry problems.

FIFA is preparing for the next big tournament: Around nine months before the 2026 World Cup kick -off in the USA, Mexico and Canada, the World Association has announced the official start of ticket sales. From September 10th, fans can order their tickets worldwide on fifa.com/tickets – first in a first sales window.

As the association announced on Tuesday, registration via the website is already recommended. With the creation of a FIFA-ID, interested parties will continue to receive information about the expiry of the sale.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino spoke of an “overwhelming success” of the club World Cup in the USA and said that the anticipation for the tournament of the national teams was now “bigger than ever”. He added: “We are happy to welcome the world in North America when Canada, Mexico and the USA will carry out the world’s largest and best sporting event.” He asked fans around the globe to secure places at an early stage – the cards were as popular “as nowhere else in sports”.

At the same time, FIFA points out that an admission ticket does not automatically entitle you to enter one of the host countries. Depending on the country of origin in the United States in particular, entry problems can occur.

The kick-off for the World Cup falls on June 11, 2026 in Mexico City. The final will take place on July 19 in East Rutherford, where the final of the club World Cup between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain (3-0) took place recently. For the first time, 48 teams will take part in 104 games – FIFA expects around 6.5 million visitors.

Due to the expected demand, ticket sales should take place in several phases. According to the association, if you register via the FIFA ID, you will be informed about all steps.

The specific game schedule is still open. This will only be published after the group draw in December. In contrast to teams such as record world champion Brazil or defending champion Argentina, Germany is not yet qualified. The DFB selection will start in September in the decisive games against Slovakia, Northern Ireland and Luxembourg.
