FIFA, the world football governing body, has allowed Scottish fans to wear traditional clothing. It was forbidden before.

The Scottish Football Association has reached an agreement with World Cup organizers that will allow fans to take the traditional sporran into stadiums. This decision comes after the bags worn over the kilt were initially deemed too large for stadium use.

The world football association Fifa has now approved taking the sporrans into the stadiums following the usual control procedures. A spokesman for the Scottish Football Association said the bags were essential for storing personal valuables as the kilt had no pockets.

The World Cup takes place in the USA, Mexico and Canada in the summer. Scotland has qualified for the tournament for the first time since 1998, and thousands of fans from home are expected. The Scottish team starts with two games in Boston against Haiti and Morocco before playing Brazil in Miami.
