Fielmann appoints new CFO

The Fielmann Group is starting the year with a new CFO.

The Hamburg optics group has appointed Steffen Bätjer as CFO. He will succeed Georg Alexander Zeiss, Fielmann Group AG announced on Tuesday. In addition to global responsibility for the group’s finances, Bätjer, who has been the head of controlling at the optician group since August, will also be responsible for tax, legal, compliance and controlling.

The new CFO has over 20 years of experience as a CFO and has worked in various countries and industries, according to the statement. Most recently, he held the role of CFO at traffic and safety solutions company Work Zone Safety Group.

“The digitalization and internationalization of our family business as part of our Vision 2025 are leading to strong growth and increasing the complexity of our business model,” says CEO Marc Fielmann. “Steffen’s analytical talent and proven ability to lead teams to outstanding performance will make an important contribution to streamlining our company’s core processes and increasing efficiency worldwide.”

Bätjer’s predecessor Zeiss, in turn, is moving to the supervisory board of the Fielmann Group after 20 years as CFO, subject to the approval of the responsible district court in Hamburg, and taking over management of the Fielmann family holding company.

“Through his great commitment, Alexander has shaped our family business over two decades,” says Fielmann. “While Fielmann Group AG welcomes him to the Supervisory Board, the Fielmann family looks forward to writing the next chapters of the company’s history together with him.”
