Feyenoord passes Tottenham and equals Atlético at fourth European prize | NOW

Feyenoord will be chasing the fourth European prize in club history in the final of the Conference League on Wednesday evening, allowing Rotterdam club Tottenham Hotspur to pass. Moreover, Feyenoord can equalize with Atlético Madrid, which won a European tournament four times.

The club with the most overall victories in European tournaments is Real Madrid, which can conquer the sixteenth European cup on Saturday in the Champions League final against Liverpool. The Madrilenians have won the European Cup I six times, the Champions League seven times and the UEFA Cup twice.

Feyenoord is on three final victories in European tournaments. The Rotterdammers won the European Cup I (1970) and twice the UEFA Cup (1974 and 2002). The European Super Cup, which Feyenoord never won, has not been taken into account.

With three European prizes, Feyenoord is in joint fourteenth place in the club ranking with European prizes. Tottenham, Parma and Anderlecht also won three European tournaments. Atlético Madrid and FC Porto are just above that with four.

Feyenoord never lost a European final

With six victories (three times the European Cup I, once the Champions League, a European Cup II and the UEFA Cup), Ajax is the most successful Dutch club in Europe. The team from Amsterdam also lost four European finals.

What is special about Feyenoord’s European successes is that the club never lost a European final. There are only five other clubs that have also been in European finals several times and have always won. These are Sevilla (6), Nottingham Forest (2), PSV (2), Dynamo Kyiv (2) and IFK Göteborg (2). AS Roma only reached a European final once before, the final battle of the European Cup I in 1984. The Italians lost via penalty kicks to Liverpool.

The Conference League final between Feyenoord and AS Roma starts on Wednesday at 9 p.m. in the Arena Kombëtare in Tirana and is led by Romanian referee István Kovács.
