Fewer deaths again, still more than usual | Inland

Last week an estimated 4100 people died, 950 more than usual. The researchers estimated that by looking at deaths from previous years and trends in population statistics. There is still excess mortality. This means that more people die than can be explained by usual fluctuations in the death rate.

Two weeks ago, the number of deaths fell for the first time in eight weeks. So that trend appears to be continuing.

80 years or older

There is excess mortality in all age groups, but the number of deaths is decreasing. The death rate is highest in people aged 80 years or older. About 600 more people than usual died in this group last week. The number of deaths among people aged 65 to 80 was 300 higher than normal. 75 more people under those ages died.

CBS does not yet know what caused these people to die. It is known from previous corona waves that the excess mortality was largely explained by Covid-19. The researchers will only have the cause of death statements later that will tell whether this corona wave is the case again.
