The world ranking list wins at the start of the tournament in Tokyo. But there is a moment that is worried. Then the Spaniard comments.

Spain’s tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has reached the round of 16 in Tokyo despite a shock. The six-time Grand Slam tournament winner won his opening match against the Argentinian Sebastian Baez 6: 4, 6: 2. In between, the Alcaraz fans had to fear a violation of the US Open Champions.

Alcaraz was kinked with his left foot in the first set when he put on a sprint. As a result, he was first treated on the pitch for minutes at 2-2, then he officially took a medical break. He limp to the bank, where his left foot was taped.

“I am glad that I was able to end the match so well afterwards,” said Alcaraz afterwards. But he also admitted: “When it happened, I didn’t feel good at all. I couldn’t do anything in the first five minutes. I was concerned because it didn’t feel good.”

The Spaniard won the first point after the resumption of the match, and a little later he brought the Satz -turning break to 5: 4. In the second set, too, the 22-year-old was not really noticeable, even if he did not show the highest dynamics with every rally.

Alcaraz was able to win three out of four Grand Slam tournaments in 2025, triumphed both the Australian Open in January and at the French Open in June and most recently at the US Open in September, the longed-for tour in the world rankings also took back. Only in Wimbledon he lost to his permanent rival Jannik Sinner.
