The Azero route, with its very long main straight, has become a sort of puzzle for team technicians. The horse strategy

The first free practice session in Baku did not provide the teams with all the answers they were looking for, also due to the interruptions that have strongly reduced time on the track for all drivers. The Baku route, characterized by the very long main straight, in fact has gradually become a sort of puzzle for the technicians of the teams, at the level of specific setup to be adopted. A significant specificity of this circuit, linked to the length of the main straight, is the progressive cooling of the front tires that takes place during its travel. A factor of great weight, then, in the first part of the circuit, towards the guided section around the Old Town, where the single -seaters in fact lose direction of the poison, precisely because of the low temperature of the front tires.

The Ferrari strategy

It is therefore interesting to note that Ferrari, in the preparation of the Azero tender, has in fact simulated the real conditions, putting an emphasis on the low temperatures of exercising the front tires. This simulation base, in fact, has in fact allowed to verify the actual dynamic behavior of the single -seater in the various sections of the circuit and proceed to definition a basic structure to refine during the two free practice sessions. The performance of the FP1, interrupted by the red flags, did not allow to collect all the necessary data and certainly part of the expected work will also be carried out in the first part of the second session, in the afternoon. A relevant fact to be taken into consideration concerns, then, the evolution of the track when the cars are passing. In fact, in the debut, a car like the MCL39 characterized by a high load generated by the bottom, was able to benefit from it by inducing a high grip on a surface still decidedly slippery because it is not rubberized. It is correct, however, to think that with the advance of the weekend, the advantage in terms of induced grip of which the single-seater of the Woking team was able to benefit, it can be thinned, by highlighting the cars with the most efficient aerodynamic characteristics in the fast stretch of the circuit such as the SF-25 and the RB21. In short, the game is absolutely open and the answers that provided the FP1, cannot be considered definitive.

SF-25 Baku configuration

The SF-125 boasts high aerodynamic efficiency combined with a more soft rear suspension setup than other tracks, such as Monza.

MCL39 Rear wing

The MCL39 adopts a rear wing in Azerbaijan that further extremes the configuration adopted in Monza, as regards the incidence of the flap, enjoying a high load generated by the bottom.
