Coach Şenol Güneş, who also coaches Trabzonspor, Beşiktaş and the National Football Team, also took part in the Brand&Sport Summit organization, which brought together important names of Turkish sports. Güneş first attended the session and then answered questions from members of the press. Referring to the investigation of betting in football, Güneş said, “Betting in football is currently harmful. It is what is on the agenda. I think everyone is disturbed by it. Staying away from these things would be for the benefit of society. Betting is a subject I do not know. There is no time to talk about the negative aspects of betting. It is increasing. This situation is reflected in football. If there is a crime, someone should be punished.”

Stating that the timing of the betting investigation was wrong, the experienced coach said, “We should have done the investigation either at the beginning of the season or at the end of the season. When you do this in the middle of the season, the league ends. Professional football and coaching are still not fully established as professions. These things are more common in the lower leagues. There are two names in the Super League. They go to prison and you feel sad. Another player is punished by the Professional Football Disciplinary Board. Imagine 9-10 players from a team are punished. The league ends. There is a timing mistake.” he said.

Stating that he has not coached a team for about a year and that he is preparing a book and documentary about his football life, Güneş said, “I don’t know if I will continue to be a coach. I have no decision about it. I have no expectations about it. I ask the artificial intelligence. I must do a job that will not damage my reputation. I am in favor of rest right now. I am preparing a book and documentary about my football life. I have not made a clear decision about being a coach yet.”
“I THINK GALATASARAY’S MATCH WITH JUVENTUS WILL GO GOOD”
Evaluating the performance of Turkish clubs in the European cups this season, the experienced coach said, “We are seeing the month of March in the European cups. This is very good. The investments are huge. We expect even better results. I congratulate Samsunpsor’s success. They have no experience, but they are doing very well. Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe have experience. Galatasaray has a chance in the UEFA Champions League. It was a little down in the league stage, but it can go up again. I think the Juventus match will go well. “Fenerbahçe also has a chance in the UEFA Europa League. I wish success to all teams,” he said.

Sharing his views on the National Football Team’s chances for the World Cup, Şenol Güneş said, “In general, we have a great chance. It is not right to say it is a guarantee. During our time, we participated in the World Cup after half a century. Now we have the chance to participate after a quarter of a century. I hope we will participate in the World Cup.”

Finally, Güneş expressed his views on the championship race in the Trendyol Super League and said, “On paper, Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, Beşiktaş and Trabzonspor have a claim. The Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe rivalry comes to the fore a little. This harms both Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe. If 5-6 teams competed at the top, it would be a more fair competition in football.
