Foil European Champion Leonie Ebert (Werbach) clearly missed out on a medal at the World Championships in Cairo. In the round of 16, the 22-year-old lost to Italy’s Francesca Palumbo 10:15.

After individual gold and team bronze at the European Championships in Antalya, Ebert entered the competition as the German Fencing Federation’s (DFeB) hope for a medal.

Next chance on Friday

The Olympian is therefore still waiting for a medal at the World Championships. The next chance is next Friday in the team competition. The German Degen men around Samuel Unterhauser also played no role in the fight for precious metal, none reached the round of the last 32.

This means that the German team in the Egyptian capital remains with one medal. Epee fencer Alexandra Ndolo was the first German to win a silver medal at the World Championships in Kazan since Britta Heidemann eight years ago.
