Federico Liberatore stops at the age of 30. The slalom specialist looks back on a career highlight in France and many injuries.

Federico Liberatore has announced his resignation. The South Tyrolean Slalom specialist explained in an emotional Instagram contribution at the weekend that his active career ended at the age of 30. He thought about this step for a long time – now the time had come.

“You never really know when it is time to say enough. For me, the moment has come now. My ski career ends here,” wrote the Italian, who had experienced both heights and setbacks in his career.

Liberatore succeeded in one of his greatest successes on February 8, 2020 in the World Cup: In Chamonix, he catapulted himself to eleventh in the first run with a strong journey. Just 24 hours later he won the European Cup slalom in Berchtesgaden-a weekend that is remembered.

However, Liberatore could not celebrate the big breakthrough – also because of several injuries. Back surgery and a cruciate ligament tear in 2023 braked it in a decisive phase. The problems occurred at the peak of his career, he said. It is particularly difficult to start again and to prove itself again.
