Federal police confiscate 271 untaxed cartons of cigarettes

District of Oder-Spree

On Sunday morning, federal police officers confiscated a total of 54,200 untaxed cigarettes at a petrol station and rest area on Autobahn 12 near Jacobsdorf in the Oder-Spree district.

At the Biegener Hellen Nord rest area, the officers checked the car of a 37-year-old who had just entered from Poland. This was announced by the federal police on Tuesday. As it also turned out, there was a request from the Hamburg public prosecutor’s office to determine the whereabouts of the man who is accused of property crime.

Investigations were initiated against the man on suspicion of violating the tax code and on suspicion of unauthorized entry.

The officers handed over the confiscated cigarettes to the responsible customs investigation office in Berlin-Brandenburg. The man was returned to Poland after the police measures were completed.
