Federal Employment Agency presents statistics for December

NUREMBERG (dpa-AFX) – The Federal Employment Agency announced the labor market statistics for December in Nuremberg on Tuesday (10:00 a.m.). The number of unemployed is expected to have risen slightly due to seasonal factors. However, experts assume that the labor market has remained stable despite inflation and the energy crisis.

In November, unemployment in Germany fell compared to the previous month. The federal agency registered 2.434 million people without a job that month, 8,000 fewer than in October. Compared to the same month last year, however, the number of unemployed increased by 117,000. The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.3 percent.

Unemployment tends to increase in December because fixed-term contracts tend to expire at the end of the year and companies are hiring fewer people that month. The cut-off date for the current statistics was December 14./igl/DP/ngu
