BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The federally owned gas importer Sefe is planning a long-term LNG supply contract with a Canadian company. Sefe and the company Ksi Lisims LNG want to sign a declaration of intent for the annual delivery of one million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG), as the Federal Ministry of Economics announced. Deliveries are expected to begin in the early 2030s and take place over a period of up to 20 years.

The aim is to broaden the supply of liquefied natural gas. So far, the majority of deliveries come from the USA. According to the ministry, the agreement is Sefe’s first long-term LNG partnership with a Canadian supplier.

Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche (CDU) said with regard to the declaration of intent: “Through closer cooperation, we are diversifying procurement channels and making our economies more resilient to global risks.”

Sefe was formerly called GAZPROM Germania, was a subsidiary of the Russian state-owned company Gazprom and was nationalized as a result of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine and the energy crisis in Germany./hoe/DP/men
