Fear comes true: Lieder tears cruciate ligament

FOOTBALL – FC Emmen can no longer use Mart Lieder for the rest of the season. The 31-year-old striker has a torn cruciate ligament and will require surgery. The attacker sustained the injury to his left knee last Friday in the final phase of the home game against Jong Ajax.

Lieder, who came over from the Danish club Odense at the end of January, participated in five competition matches, once as a basic player (against Almere City FC) and did not score yet. He did, however, have a crucial role last Friday in the victory of the Drenthe club over the talents from Amsterdam. The former player of FC Eindhoven, Vitesse and RKC, among others, was involved in both goals.

Immediately after the game against Jong Ajax, trainer Dick Lukkien feared the worst. “Mart is an experienced expert when it comes to cruciate ligament injuries. He has a past with it and recognized the feeling. We hope it will be okay, but fear that it will not be. His failure is a terrible damper on the evening.”

In the 2013/2014 season, Lieder also tore his cruciate ligament. At the time, the season at RKC had yet to start.
