Status: 09.11.2022 9:20 p.m

1. FC Saarbrücken scored important points with a 3-1 home win against VfB Oldenburg on Wednesday. The Saarlanders are now playing at the top again.

It was the last home game of 1. FC Saarbrücken this year against VfB Oldenburg especially the recent appearance of the Saarlanders in Ludwigspark to make amends. And the team of interim coach and manager Rüdiger Ziehl should have succeeded with a 3:1 victory on Wednesday evening.

FCS dominated first half

In the 8th minute, the Saarlanders took the lead through Marvin Cuni. Günther-Schmidt expanded it in the 24th minute after a template from Rabihic. Just six minutes later, Ludwigspark was celebrating the 3-0 win – Oldenburg’s central defender Marcel Appiah scrambled Neudecker’s shot into his own goal.

Overall, FCS presented itself in the first half as a much more superior and attacking team, which the apparently overwhelmed opponent had little to counter.

Less excited second half

The second half was quiet. Oldenburg could not become really dangerous for the FCS, which switched to administration mode, for long stretches. But then it happened: In the 76th minute, Ayodele Adetula reduced the host’s lead to 3:1. In the 88th minute, a mistake by Uaffero almost gave them the next goal – but FCS keeper Batz saved. The game finally ended 3:1.

Next opponent Hallescher FC

Three important points go to FCS, which moves up to fourth place in the table behind Wehen Wiesbaden. The FCS also benefited from the defeat of 1860 Munich, who had to admit defeat to the Freiburg team, who were not eligible for promotion.

If the Saarlanders still win away against Hallesche FC on Saturday, players and fans alike should go into the winter break satisfied. Kick-off is at 2 p.m.
