The home team seemed to face a simple evening. Levi Smans put the ball out of a free kick at the second post in the fourth minute. Luuk Brouwers worked the ball through the inside of the post in the goal: 1-0. FC Volendam thought it would come alongside shortly before half -time, but Henk Veerman’s goal was rejected due to offside.

Three minutes after the break, SC Heerenveen happened to the same, when a goal from Jacob Trenskow was canceled. Levi Smans had to be replaced not much later. The midfielder of Heerenveen suffered an apparently serious knee injury.
Volendam came alongside in the 65th minute. Ozan Kökcü was allowed to shoot from just outside the penalty area and did that low in the corner. Keeper Andries Noppert could not be at the ball.

Robert Mühren came across Noppert in the final phase. Volendam also hit the pole in injury time.
