FC Volendam almost back in Eredivisie after victory over Jong Ajax

FC Volendam is almost back in the Eredivisie. The team of trainer Wim Jonk also won the home match against Jong Ajax (3-1) and thus got second place, which entitles them to promotion, even more firmly. Volendam last played at the highest level in the 2008-2009 season. The club will play an away game with FC Den Bosch next Friday.

Leader FC Emmen already assured itself on Friday of a return to the Eredivisie. Volendam has defended a 7-point lead over FC Eindhoven, which is classified third, in the last three competition matches. ADO Den Haag can come 6 points from Volendam if it beats Jong PSV. That game was discontinued last month due to a power failure in the ADO stadium. Young PSV led 1-0 at that time.

Christian Rasmussen opened the scoring for Young Ajax. The Dane got the ball at his feet with some luck. Naci Ünüvar slipped, but still brought Rasmussen into shooting position. Volendam equalized in the 27th minute through a utilized penalty from top scorer Robert Mühren. Gaetano Oristanio scored Volendam’s second goal in the opening phase of the second half. Mühren decided the game in the 74th minute with his second goal of the game. The striker has increased his tally to 27 goals this season.

Young Ajax played more than a half with ten men. Defender Enric Llansana was shown a red card in the 41st minute.
