FC St. Pauli extends with coach Schultz, Fußball | 2. Bundesliga – NDR – regional

Schultz has been with the club for 16 years

“It’s no secret that I feel at home at FC St. Pauli. I got a great opportunity here a year and a half ago and now I’m ready to take the next step in development together with the club,” said Schultz , who has been working in various functions at the Kiezkickern for more than 16 years and has been the head coach of the professionals since 2020.

From relegation candidate to Bundesliga candidate

Schultz’s time as head coach of the club, for whom he had already stood on the pitch as a professional, could have been over very quickly. Because Jos Luhukay’s successor did not go well in his 2020/2021 premiere season.

It all started with an embarrassing cup in Elversberg. And this was followed by 15 league games in which St. Pauli only won once. The Hamburgers were penultimate – and no one would have been surprised if Schultz had to leave.

Bornemann stuck to Schultz despite the crisis

But manager Bornemann, who was also responsible for the enthronement of the former youth coach, stuck to Schultz undeterred. And that should pay off. St. Pauli was the fourth best team in the second half of the season, held the class with 14 points ahead of the relegation rank and took the momentum with them into the new season.
