One of the most valuable Bundesliga professionals with a contract expiring in the summer of 2025 is facing a winter transfer: FC Augsburg’s Rubén Vargas is again being courted by FC Sevilla – this is reported by “Kicker“. After Vargas signaled to club officials that he would not extend his contract, the struggling LaLiga club made an offer of 1.5 million euros.

According to the “Kicker”, this is the second attempt by the Andalusians and this offer is also not intended to satisfy the FCA. However, the Augsburg negotiating situation is not optimal in the Vargas case. He wants to leave, his contract only runs for six months and so this transfer window is the last chance for a transfer. Especially since the Swiss has been lagging behind his form from previous years since a good European Championship in 2024 with the Fuggerstadt team.

Only 304 minutes spread over eight Bundesliga games and zero scorer points are unusual performance figures for the winger, with whom Borussia Mönchengladbach is also linked in the rumor mill. Vargas’ market value recently fell from 9 million to 7 million euros. He was already facing a move in January 2024. At that time he had reached an agreement with Fiorentina, but with the European Championship in mind he decided to stay in familiar territory.

As of today, a total of nine working papers at FCA end on June 30, 2025, including the loan contracts of Frank Onyeka (27, Brentford) and Chrislain Matsima (22, Monaco). If the Spaniards and the Bavarian Swabians come to an agreement, Vargas would meet ex-Bundesliga professionals Dodi Lukébakio (27), Chidera Ejuke (27), Djibril Sow (27), Tanguy Nianzou (22) and Ørjan Nyland (34) in Seville ) meet. Also on the offensive, the five-time Europa League winner is about to sign Juninho (28), who currently strikes for Qarabağ Ağdam. The Brazilian is said to cost around 4 million euros plus bonuses.

Since Julen Lopetegui left in 2022 for the Premier League, Sevilla FC’s performance curve in LaLiga has been pointing downwards. After 19 years in the top half of the table and as a successful regular guest in the European Cup, they finished the last two seasons in eleventh and 13th place – they are currently in 14th place (in the LaLiga table) with the ninth most valuable squad in the league.
