FC Schalke 04: Spectacular Terodde U-turn perfect

Simon Terodde and FC Schalke 04 are going their separate ways at the end of the season, according to an announcement in early April. Now, however, there is a spectacular reversal.

Simon Terodde and FC Schalke 04, who have been relegated to the Bundesliga, are going into a new season together. The district club announced this on Friday morning. A term until June 2024 is expected, but this has not yet been confirmed by the club.

The extra time is an important sign for teammates and fans, as the club can now also fall back on the second division record scorer in the mission to get promoted again. With his goals, Terodde has already shot VfB Stuttgart (2016/17), 1. FC Köln (2018/19) and 2021/22 FC Schalke 04 back into the 1st Bundesliga. The experienced player scored 30 goals in 30 second division appearances for the miners alone. A yield that also made Terodde the best striker in the history of the second division.

In the past 2022/23 season, however, Simon Terodde could no longer match his outstanding quota in the 2nd Bundesliga in the German football upper house. The 35-year-old played a whopping 32 games, mostly leading the Knappen onto the field as captain and scoring five goals.

At the beginning of April, Terodde announced his departure from Gelsenkirchen. “In recent weeks there has been a lot of speculation in the media about my future. It’s a topic that neither the club nor I need in these trend-setting weeks. That’s why I would like to declare now that my time at Schalke will definitely end in the summer.” , it said at the time in an official message on “schalke04.de”.

How can FC Schalke 04 afford Terodde?

At the same time, Terodde had announced that a career end was not yet an option. “I definitely want to keep playing,” the attacker emphasized when announcing his farewell to Schalke.

It is questionable, however, how Schalke intends to finance the extension. According to the “Bild” newspaper, which had already reported on the extension on Friday morning, the separation that was actually intended was at least “not entirely voluntary”.

On the one hand, there were doubts in Gelsenkirchen that Terodde would find his old strength again, but on the other hand, financial reasons were also decisive.
