FC Schalke 04 | Huub Stevens misses pace player: “Unfortunately not in the squad”

In the first game under new hopeful Thomas Reis, FC Schalke 04 suffered a well-deserved 2-0 home defeat against SC Freiburg. A euphoria killer? Not for Knappen legend Huub Stevens!

Despite the sobering result on Sunday evening, Schalke’s former successful coach Huub Stevens claims to have recognized some improvements in the team.

“I saw certain moments on Sunday where you can see that good work was done in the first few days. The organization was much better than before,” emphasized the Dutchman on the “ran Bundesliga Webshow”.

However, he misses speed, the 68-year-old added: “Schalke have good strikers, but you need fast people around them to push forward. Unfortunately, Schalke don’t have them in their squad.”

Rouven Schröder “a bit knocked out” after time at FC Schalke 04

After separating from Frank Kramer, Reis took up his post as the new head coach of the Royal Blues last week. Shortly before, the previous sports director Rouven Schröder had surprisingly given up his position.

“He was definitely a bit knocked out. The club managed him a bit,” said Stevens. “I hope he’s doing well and enjoying his work again in the future. He’s a good person but the results aren’t what he wanted.”

After Schröder’s exit, there was speculation that the manager would switch to RB Leipzig on the fly, but the rumors have not been substantiated so far.

In the Bundesliga, FC Schalke 04 is at the bottom of the table after twelve match days. The only win of the season came on matchday 6 against VfL Bochum – then still coached by Thomas Reis.

The trend-setting away game at fellow promoted team Werder Bremen is on the program for the coming weekend.
