Edin Dzeko is supposed to be the king transfer of FC Schalke 04, shooting the Royal Blues back into the Bundesliga in the second half of the season after two years of suffering in the 2nd division. Former Schalke coach Felix Magath is very skeptical about Dzeko.

FC Schalke 04 has recently made sensational headlines with its transfer policy: expectations of star striker Edin Dzeko in particular are huge in euphoric Gelsenkirchen.

In terms of sport, Schalke started the year anything but well. Coach Edin Dzeko’s team only got two points from the last three league games. Dzeko’s debut on the penultimate matchday against Kaiserslautern was acclaimed, but the Bosnian scored shortly before the end to make the final score 2-2.

On the 20th matchday, Dzeko and his colleagues took a big hit in the “small district derby” at VfL Bochum. The harmless Royal Blues lost 2-0, Dzeko – who came on as a substitute in the second half – set up the supposed connection, but was called back by the VAR: handball.

FC Schalke 04: Changed “statics” because of Edin Dzeko

If Felix Magath has his way, S04 didn’t do themselves any favors with Dzeko, who was celebrated as a royal transfer.

“FC Schalke 04 has now created a problem for itself. The team worked really well, everything was fine, everyone was happy, things couldn’t have been better for Schalke,” said Magath in the interview RTL/ntv and sport.de from: “Then they brought in Edin Dzeko, a very extraordinary player who can of course theoretically help the team. But then the whole statics changed again.”

The former Schalke coach and manager’s thesis on the current sporting dip: “I think that’s the reason why other players now have to look for their positions again. That’s why you have such a small crisis.”

In addition, with the transfer, Schalke not only burdened Dzeko with a very heavy backpack, but also the entire club. “Of course that puts pressure on the player when there are such high expectations. FC Schalke now has to get promoted through this commitment,” emphasized Magath.

He believes that Dzeko can withstand the pressure, said the 71-year-old, who added with a smile. “I don’t know whether it’s FC Schalke.”
