The devastating fire in Crans-Montana claimed many victims. It has now become known that a young French talent was also affected.
The fire disaster in a nightclub in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, also had a deep impact on international sport. As the French football club FC Metz confirmed on Thursday evening, their player Tahirys Dos Santos was seriously injured in the fire.
The 19-year-old footballer was also in Crans-Montana in the early hours of the morning when the serious fire broke out in the nightclub. Dos Santos suffered serious burn injuries and had to be flown by helicopter to Germany for further treatment. The young player is under contract with FC Metz and is part of the northern French second team. It was only around two weeks ago that he was part of the professional squad for the first time in the cup competition.
The tragedy caused consternation far beyond the country’s borders. Numerous clubs and associations expressed their sympathy. FC Sion expressed its condolences and called on the population to avoid risky activities in order not to put additional strain on the emergency services.
The club also drew attention to a family hotline that has been set up through which relatives can receive support and information. Around 40 people were killed in the fire disaster in Switzerland.
