FC Emmen today unveiled the ninth honorary tile for the stadium. Jannes Wolters, the defender who played no fewer than 214 games for Emmen, was awarded the tile because he ‘played an important role in the history of the club’.

Between 1997 and 2010, Wolters played 214 games for FC Emmen. The midfielder scored 18 times. In between, he moved to AZ for three years, but in 2003 he finally returned to Drenthe.

The football career of Wolters came to an end at the age of 30, due to a dragging knee injury. Then he was assistant trainer at FC Emmen until 2013.

After Dick Lukkien, Riny van Vilsteren, Michel van Oostrum, Frank Olijve, Roy Stroeve, Jan Kuilder, René Grummel and Joseph Oosting, Wolters is the ninth club icon who received a tile. Until the hundredth birthday in August, the club will reveal a number of honorary tiles for the stadium.
