FC Emmen rents midfielder Mark Diemers from Feyenoord

FOOTBALL – FC Emmen has completed the arrival of Mark Diemers. The midfielder is making the switch from Feyenoord on a rental basis this season.

“Mark is the offensive reinforcement we were looking for. Moreover, he is multifunctional, he has shown that at Feyenoord and Hanover,” says FC Emmen chairman Ronald Lubbers. “The negotiations with Feyenoord gained momentum on Wednesday afternoon and we were out by the end of the afternoon.”

FC Emmen can use the midfielder well. Maikel Kieftenbeld was badly injured in the opening match against PSV. The Milwall midfielder tore his anterior cruciate ligament. The season for Kieftenbeld has already come to an end.

The 28-year-old Diemers had little perspective at Feyenoord under trainer Arne Slot. His contract with the Rotterdammers continues for another year. De Fries has recently been associated with various clubs, including Vitesse, Fortuna Sittard and SC Cambuur. But FC Emmen draws the longest straw.

Diemers seemed to make the switch from Fortuna to FC Groningen in the summer of 2020. He verbally agreed with the Groningers, but eventually decided to leave for Feyenoord. In Rotterdam, the midfielder initially played regularly, but that changed after Slot’s arrival.

In the past six months, Diemers was leased to Hannover 96. He previously played for FC Utrecht and Cambuur and De Graafschap.
