FC Emmen difficult, but deserved, past TOP Oss and records sixth win in a row

FOOTBALL –
It was a difficult delivery, but nobody cared in De Oude Meerdijk. FC Emmen won for the sixth time in a row and with the 3-1 victory over TOP Oss FC Emmen now has a six point lead over the nearest competitor (ADO Den Haag) in the battle for promotion.

The victory means FC Emmen has 51 points from 24 matches. That is four fewer than leader FC Volendam, five more than Jong Ajax and therefore six more than ADO Den Haag.

Just before half time: 1-0

After a mediocre first half, with a lot of ball possession but hardly any chances, the Drentse club took the lead just before half-time. The ball came after a cross by Jasin-Amin Assehnoun, through the head of Miguel Araujo, which fortunately came in front of the feet of Jari Vlak, who simply tapped in: 1-0.

Moments before that, the guests almost took the lead after a huge error by Miguel Araujo. The central defender childishly lost the ball, after which Justin Mathieu was able to take it out. Goal scorer Flat finally got that ball off the line. After the save of Vlak, Emmen did have two great chances for the opening goal. Peter van Ooijen saw his effort go wide after a good advance by Kharchouch and Assehnoun. After that, basic debutant Ole Romeny was still close, but his effort ended up on the post via TOP goalkeeper Alblas. From the corner that followed, Vlak finally scored the deserved opening goal.

Margharita with the equalizer

Shortly after the break TOP Oss surprisingly equalized. A bad bounce by Keziah Veendorp was not repaired by Oussama El Azzouzi and ten seconds later the ball was in the net. Jearl Margaritha was completely free and was given an unmissable opportunity by Lion Kaak: 1-1.

Supporters on the benches

Supported by about 3,000 spectators, the home team got up and came 2-1 via Reda Kharchouch. The striker, who had a difficult evening, shot nicely from the inside of the post. Good work by a rushing Jeff Hardenveld preceded this, by the way. He delivered the ball to Kharchouch with a sliding tackle.

The decision was made six minutes before the end. A corner from substitute Azzeddine Toufiqui was headed in hard, but very easily (and freestanding) by El Azzouzi: 3-1.

Leader in the third period

FC Emmen shakes off TOP Oss in the battle for the third period with its victory. They are in the lead with fifteen points from five games. Jong PSV is second together with FC Volendam. Both with thirteen points.

With the win, the Drenthe strengthen their second place. Moreover, the team from Emmen still has to wait for the result of the game against Helmond Sport. The latter did not show up, but the question is what the national football association will do with that match.
