Viktor Claesson has found a new employer after leaving FK Krasnodar. The 30-year-old winger joined FC Copenhagen for the remainder of the season. The 58-time Sweden international made use of FIFA’s special transfer window for foreign professionals in the course of the Russian war of aggression. With a market value of 9 million euros, Claesson is one of the most valuable players to leave Russia.
Claesson has played 147 games for Krasnodar in which he has scored 43 goals and provided 31 assists since 2017. It is the fourth club in the third country for the right-footed player. He started his career in his homeland at IFK Värnamo before moving on to where he won the Swedish championship and cup.
Special Transfer Window: Notable players who left Ukraine & Russia
“Viktor was in an unfortunate situation because of the war in Ukraine, which made him no longer want to play in Russia. These circumstances made it possible for us to get him by the summer. Then we will talk about whether the cooperation should be continued,” said sporting director Peter Christiansen. “He is a very talented player with high-level experience who has been on FC Copenhagen’s wish list for the last three or four transfer windows.”
Claesson added: “I couldn’t imagine continuing in Russia after what happened in Ukraine. Now I’m looking forward to coming to Copenhagen and will do everything I can to help the team win the championship.” The 13-time Danish champion is in the Superligaen championship round.
