FC Bayern wanted another Ajax jewel in the summer

When looking for reinforcements, FC Bayern have increasingly looked to the Netherlands in recent months. Midfield talent Ryan Gravenberch came to Munich in the summer and veteran Daley Blind in the winter. According to media reports, the next Ajax professional could soon move to the German record champions. Apparently there has been a lot of interest for a long time.

The highly talented Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber has long been associated with the big clubs in Europe. The “90 Min” portal recently brought the 21-year-old into play at FC Bayern, and BVB should also be among the interested parties.

The Munich team is said to have had the 14-time Dutch national player on their list not just recently, reports “Sport1”. Accordingly, Timber was already considered a transfer option last summer.

A move to the Bundesliga ultimately didn’t come about for a number of reasons: on the one hand, Benjamin Pavard, who was quite willing to change at the time, decided to stay at Bayern, and the record champions also signed ex-Amsterdam Matthijs de Ligt and thus closed the gap that Niklas Süle had had left his departure to BVB. On the other hand, Timber signed a new three-year contract with Ajax last August.

Pavard talks have priority at Bayern Munich

However, very few experts now assume that the 1.82 meter tall defender will actually play in the Eredivisie for so long. At Ajax, Jurrien Timber is an absolute regular player, at the World Cup in Qatar he showed convincing performances on the highest stage. A move to a big top club in the summer would be the logical step.

According to “Sport1”, whether FC Bayern will strike again at Ajax depends above all on Benjamin Pavard’s future. The Frenchman is one of the best defenders in the squad this season and is now regularly used by head coach Julian Nagelsmann in his favorite position in central defence.

After Pavard had spoken publicly in the winter of an early departure, according to reports, an extension of the contract, which expires in 2024, now seems conceivable for the player. According to the broadcaster, the talks with the 26-year-old have priority before they specifically deal with a timber transfer.

It is conceivable anyway that the youngster will be drawn to the Premier League. With Manchester United, another heavyweight is said to be showing great interest in Jurrien Timber.
