When FC Bayern opens the 25th matchday of the German Bundesliga against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday at 8:30 p.m., the role of favorites could hardly be clearer. The league leaders from Munich welcome the Fohlenelf, who recently celebrated their first win after seven unsuccessful encounters in a 1-0 win against Union Berlin. Nevertheless, the team from the Lower Rhine is considered a feared opponent of the record champions – but the image is in danger of degenerating into a myth.

Since July 2011, league dominant FC Bayern has lost ten of its 29 Bundesliga duels against Borussia Mönchengladbach (14 wins, 5 draws). During this time, the Munich team have not lost more than seven matches in the German upper house against any other club.

However, the last five games all went to the leaders, the last three even resulted in zero. The Munich team achieved such a series for the first time since the 1960s.

There is little evidence that a trend reversal will begin again on Friday at 8:30 p.m. Especially since Bayern can rely on incredible offensive power in 2025/26: FCB scored 88 goals this season, 61 more than the Foals (27) – English super striker Harry Kane alone scored more goals (30) than Borussia. FC Bayern scored three goals or more in 19 of the 24 games this season!

Speaking of Kane: The goalgetter scored a brace in the 3-2 win against BVB in the fourth Bundesliga game in a row and equaled the historical record set by Lothar Emmerich (1967 for Dortmund) and Tomislav Maric (2001 for Wolfsburg). The Englishman also converted his tenth penalty of the season – equaling Bayern icon Paul Breitner’s previous record. In the Bundesliga, Kane has never missed a penalty (24 goals).

Further facts about FC Bayern vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach:

  • In the 1-0 win against Union Berlin, Gladbach celebrated their first win after 7 unsuccessful games (D3 L4). Striking: It was the Foals’ 6th league win in 2025/26, they won 5 times to nil. Only BVB (11) has a total of 9 clean sheets – just like Bayern – in the league.
  • Wide awake from the dressing room: In the 15 minutes after the break, Gladbach only conceded 1 goal – a league record ahead of Munich, who conceded 2 goals in this period.
  • Trembling in front of Bayern’s super jokers: 14 goals by FCB substitutes are not topped by any team in the league, the statistics suggest that there will be more against Gladbach. Because the team from the Lower Rhine has already been defeated by jokers 10 times, ranking 16th in the league.
  • Things are likely to be dangerous for Gladbach even after Bayern wins the ball. Munich scored 29 times from transition, no team more often. The Borussia, on the other hand, conceded a whopping 18 goals after opposing substitution play (league average: 12.3).
  • Only Robert Lewandowski, who scored 31 goals for Bayern in his record 2020/21 season, has topped Kane’s 30 BL goals after 24 match days.
  • Bayern talent Wisdom Mike was active for the Foals’ offspring until 2022 before moving to FC Bayern.
