After the spectacular duel in Paris, Bayern’s coach is looking ahead to the second leg. In Munich he doesn’t just see his professionals as responsible.
In terms of entertainment, it was hard to beat what Paris Saint-Germain and FC Bayern offered on Tuesday evening in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final: nine goals, numerous other penalty area scenes and an electrifying intensity. The French won 5-4 and therefore have a slight advantage for the second leg next Wednesday in Munich. But Vincent Kompany already has an idea as to how Bayern can make up for this.
At the press conference after the first leg, he made a request to his own supporters. “If someone has bought a ticket and doesn’t feel well on match day, they should stay at home and pass on the ticket. We need the fittest people who can take the power of the Allianz Arena with them,” said the FCB coach. “We need 75,000 people in the Allianz Arena.”
The fans are then not only asked as extras. “We have to win the game. It’s not about 2-0, 3-0 or 4-0 – it’s just about us winning the game. We need this support to achieve that,” emphasized Kompany.
He should also give his team a few approaches to gain advantages on the pitch. The balance sheet definitely speaks for Munich. The German record champions have played 22 home games across all competitions this season, winning 20 of them. In the “premier class” the statistics are even flawless with six wins in six games in front of the home crowd.
