FC Bayern: Tuchel criticizes Upamecano after Bochum game: “Too aggressive”

Hardly any Bayern players were able to put in a good performance in the defeat in Bochum. Defender Dayot Upamecano experienced a particularly bitter evening.

First the red card in Rome, then the yellow-red card in Bochum. In addition, two penalties were caused. For Dayot Upamecano, the past few days were forgettable. The Frenchman, who had previously had a largely good season, is currently experiencing a difficult time.

There was criticism from the coach for his unfortunate appearances: “Unfortunately, those were two very consequential fouls that he committed. That’s twice too impetuous, twice too aggressive. Unfortunately, because he’s ruining his own performance with it.”

But Tuchel didn’t want to criticize the basic performance too much: “But of course we also see it in context.” He assured: “It’s definitely not his attitude, his bite and his willingness.”

“Two big downers”

The 2022 runner-up was actually only scheduled to play for a maximum of half an hour due to knee problems, said Tuchel. Because Noussair Mazraoui was injured, he had to come on as a substitute in the 34th minute.

With an early yellow card he “made life difficult for himself,” said Tuchel: “After that he did very well in the position. Unfortunately, there are two big downers for him: the penalty at Lazio and the penalty today .”
